Biography

Graphic artist. Professor of History of Design and editorial designer at the University of Havana.

Since 2004 designs posters for the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. Since 2005 he writes about graphic design, organizes events and curates design exhibitions. In 2007 he co-wrote the documentary Poética Gráfica Insular and in 2011 co-authored the book Soy Cuba: Cuban Film Poster from after the Revolution. In 2010 he was awarded the Estudio 21 creation grant from the Center for the Development of Visual Arts in Havana.

Between 2016 and 2017 he was a fellow of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome. In 2016 his poster Casa Tomada was selected to promote the event of the same name, organized by Casa de las Américas. In 2018 his work was exhibited at the Artes de Cuba Festival in Washington D.C.; the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana; the DAAP gallery at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio; the Matadero Cultural Center, Madrid; and the California Museum of Art in Pasadena. His posters have been selected in the poster biennials of Lublin, Trnava and Bolivia. In 2019 he was invited to participate in the admission jury of the II Havana Design Biennial.
